Drywall is not a good choice for basement ceilings for a number of reasons.
Drywall ceiling is made with organic material and absorbs moisture, which eventually can lead to mold growth. A minimal leakage in one of the pipes above the drywall or a small water accident upstairs has the potential to transform your basement ceiling into a big mold colony. Drywall also makes it hard to access and inspect pipes, ducts, and wiring that usually runs through the basement ceiling.
TBF basement ceiling tiles can be easily removed and replaced as needed, are completely inorganic and carry a 30-year manufacturer warranty against mold and sagging.
