Insulating an Attic in Stonington, CT

This homeowner in Stonington, CT called us with concerns about his attic insulation. He believed the insulation in his home was water damaged. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, he noted that the attic insulation was blown-in fiberglass. The home was almost 50 years old, and was not sealed and insulated to modern standards.

Fogarty's Home Services was able to help this customer create a more comfortable and safe home. We removed the blown-in fiberglass using a large vacuum, ensuring that we got into every tight corner so we could remove all of it. We then got to work air-sealing the attic using our ZypFoam one-part spray foam. We installed baffles in the rafter bays, and marked each electrical component in the attic with flags for the convenience of the homeowners. We then insulated the home using our TruSoft™ blown in cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ insulation is made of 85% recycled material, and it fills all of the gaps and odd shaped voids that you may have in your attic. This home will now be comfortable for years to come!

Making a Home More Comfortable in Thompson, CT

This homeowner in Thompson, CT called us to their home to help with cold floors and humidity. This home had a nasty, dirt crawlspace that was impacting those concerns!

First, we remove all of the old, nasty insulation any debris in the crawlspace. Next, we install our dimpled plastic drainage matting across the floor to create an airspace and thermal break. TerraBlock™ floor insulation is installed over the dimpled drainage mat. Now, our heavy-duty, 20 mil thick CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner is installed permanently across the dirt floor. It is sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. This will drastically reduce the cold floors and keep water and moisture out of the crawlspace, and make this home more comfortable and energy efficient!

Insulating Kneewalls in Auburn, MA

This homeowner in Auburn, MA called us looking to replace his attic insulation. He believed that the insulation was original to the home. He wanted it replaced, as he was having issues keeping his home temperature controlled. He additionally had rodents and a mold issue that he wanted addressed. The second floor of a Cape often suffers from inadequate insulation, and air leaks from the soffits into poorly insulated kneewall spaces. This results in cold drafty rooms in winter that are harder than necessary to heat, and hot rooms in the summer as roof heat radiates in unchecked. Kneewall spaces are dusty and too cold or hot - unsuitable for clean storage.

We had the perfect solution for this customer -- our Super Kneewall™ treatment. First, our SilverGlo™ foam insulation panels are installed on the bottom of the rafters in the kneewall spaces and the ceiling joist bays are blocked and sealed with foam to stop air leakage. Then the roof slopes are dense packed with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation to stop air flow and insulate. Finally, the flat ceiling is insulated with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. Result - rooms are comfortable all year and need much less heat and air conditioning. Drafts are eliminated as kneewall spaces are airtight and clean and suitable for storage. Summer roof heat is far less.
