In order to make this home more comfortable, Fogarty's Home Services had to perform numerous tasks. First, remove the insulation from the attic and vacuum it. It was unpleasant but necessary to remove the damaged, soiled insulation from the homeowners' attic. This step allows the attic to be properly air-sealed before installing our clean, fresh, high-quality Trusoft cellulose insulation. The SilverGlo foam insulation panel was used to air-seal and insulate the scuttle cover. During the summer, the radiant barrier on top will reflect heat from the attic. A scuttle cover that is insulated makes your home easier to heat, thereby reducing your utility bills. By replacing the ineffective bath fan with a Broan Ultra Pro Fan, we were able to prevent mold growth, excessive moisture, and lingering odors. You'll save money on your electric bills with this fan as it's incredibly quiet, keeps your room dry, and improves the air quality in your home. An air-sealing chimney wrap is required to properly seal the chimney in the attic. It's probably a mystery to you what a chimney wrap is. The chimney wrap eliminates all gaps in the insulation around your chimney and seals one of your home's biggest air leaks. As soon as we complete the above installations, we can install TruSoft Cellulose insulation in the attic to keep it from getting burned, moldy, or attracting pests. The blown insulation fills all gaps and odd shapes, and it prevents thermal bridging by covering framing members. This is how we fixed the uncomfortable house by making it less drafty and lowering fuel and electric bills.
This Pittsfield homeowner contacted Fogarty's Home Services because his home was experiencing excess moisture and drafts. When we completed our Free Home Energy Evaluation, we found that there was open air space around the chimney in the attic. The building code requires that no combustible materials, including wood framing and insulation, be within 2" of a masonry chimney. This has left millions of homes, just like this one, with an airspace from the basement or crawl space right to the attic. Air that homeowners paid to heat their homes is continually leaking out to the vented attic, where it is lost. This results in a more drafty, uncomfortable home that's harder to heat, with higher energy bills. To solve this problem for our homeowner, Fogarty's Home Services flashed the space between the wood framing and masonry with metal and then sealed it airtight with special high-temperature fire caulk. Then, completely fireproof "Rock Wool" insulation panels were installed around the chimney so that TruSoft™ cellulose insulation could be blown against the chimney. "Chimney Wrap" was installed because it leaves no gaps in the insulation around the chimney, and seals one of the biggest air leaks in the home. This happy customer will now experience lower air leakage in the home, less heat loss, a more comfortable temperature and moisture level in the home, and lower energy bills.
This Pittsfield, MA homeowner reached out to us because her home was uncomfortable. It was cold inside and she could feel drafts. A problem we discovered when one of our Home Comfort Specialists was conducting her free Home Energy Evaluation, was that her can lights weren't properly insulated. When it comes to making homes more comfortable, stopping air leakage at the top of the house is the #1 priority. Can lights are holes in the ceiling that leak air between the fixture itself, due to the many holes and seams in it. To combat this problem, Fogarty's Home Services installed TiteShell™ can light covers over the homeowner's can lights. We fitted them around wires and fixture struts, and sealed air tight with expanding foam. TiteShell™ covers are safe from the fire hazards of hot bulbs and fixtures. Once TiteShells™ are installed, the attic is now ready for TruSoft™ insulation to be blown into the attic. Now our happy customer will feel less drafts, a more energy efficient house, a more comfortable temperature in her home, and lower energy costs. We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!
Our Pittsfield, MA customer contacted Fogarty's Home Services with concerns in her basement. One issue was her basement windows. They were leaky, inefficient, and unsightly. We were pleased to offer her a solution that would fix all of those problems, as part of the Total basement Finishing project. Fogarty's Home Services happily removed the old windows and installed Everlast™ High Efficiency Vinyl Window Inserts. With these new windows, our happy customer has a more comfortable temperature in her basement and in the home above. There are less drafts and less air leakage in the home overall. Lastly, she will be saving money every month on her energy bills. "We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!"
This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA called us regarding concerns he had about the insulation in his home. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived at the home, he noted that the entire ceiling of the basement was covered in fiberglass batts that were crumbling and falling.
Our solution for this homeowner was simple. We used our two-part expanding spray foam to seal and insulate their rim joist. For this homeowner, the rest of the ceiling was not necessary to insulate so long as the rim joist was properly insulated. Now, the homeowner will have lower energy bills and a more comfortable home as a result!
