Upgrading Insulation in Groton, CT

This homeowner called us out to their home to upgrade their attic insulation. This home was built in 1942, and needed an update! We also noticed some mold in the attic, which could be dangerous! We removed all of the old, nasty insulation and debris from the attic, properly bag it up, and dispose of it. Now we are able to spray our Mold-X Mold Killer in the attic on any and all areas, nooks, and crannies. This will get rid of the mold and make sure new mold spores do not start growing. Now we are able to air seal, and insulate!

We first seal up all top and end plates with foam to make sure there is no air able to escape, and so that the insulation is not trying to work all on its own. Insulation needs to be paired with proper air sealing, otherwise you are burring air leaks with just insulation! Next, we blow in our TruSoft Cellulose insulation. This fills in all cracks, gaps, and voids where air could escape through!

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home has updated insulation, and is more energy efficient!

Adding a Crawl Space Access Door in Groton, CT

This homeowner in Groton, CT called us with issues with her crawl space being very humid and moist. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, he noted that one of her issues was that she had a bulkhead door, but not an inner door to separate the exterior and interior of the home. This presents a few problems for the home: during the summer, warm and humid air comes into the home. In the winter, cold air leaks in, causing cold floors. This causes a lot of mold as well as higher energy bills.

Fogarty's was able to help this customer with this issue. We were able to install an Everlast™ crawl space door in the home. The Everlast™ crawl space door is 1/2" thick polyethylene, which is solid and durable. It is a custom sized door with thick weather stripping and anchors into the foundation. It will never rust, rot, or need paint. It is also a barrier between the volatile outside air and the inside of the crawlspace. It is an airtight access door that will last forever with less air leakage and condensation. This customer was so excited to not have any more mold or sagging floors!

Installing a New Window Well in Groton, CT

This homeowner from Groton, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her. She had a window well for the window that led to her crawl space. Open metal window wells let leaves and debris collect in them. Rain gets in, and water from over flooding gutters cascades into the window wells. Weeds grow in the window wells since they have no bottom, and mud splashes up against the window glass. And let’s face it - they are ugly! Results - Constant maintenance, far less natural light to the basement, and they are ugly!

We had the perfect solution for this customer -- the SunHouse™ Basement Window Enclosure! The window enclosure is a bright color and has a bottom to reflect much more light into the crawl space. The bottom prevents weeds from growing and mud doesn’t splash against the windows. SunHouses™ have a sturdy matching clear cover to keep rain and leaves out, and it keeps the wind from blowing against the windows.

Preparing a Dormer for Winter in Ashford, CT

This homeowner in Ashford, CT was creating a studio above his garage that he could use all year round.

We attached our Insulweb polypropylene netting to joists on the ceiling and walls, this creates a cavity for our TruSoft cellulose to be installed in. Once in place, we cut small slits in the Insulweb that we can then insert a hose into to densely pack in our Trusoft cellulose. For these dormers, we also installed our Foamax Polyiso board in the triangular wall space above the window and sealed around them to keep drafts out.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this studio can stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer and is ready to be finished off with drywall if the homeowner decides to later on.
