Superior, WI Homeowner Insulate Attic to Stop Ice Dams

This 1930's home had been cold and drafty since the family moved in in the 90's. Cold floors and rooms lead to discomfort during cold Wisconsin winters. Additionally, heat was escaping via the attic causing ice dams and condensation problems in the upper living space. After working with DBS a few years back on another project, they decided to have us completely re-insulate their attic.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer is an expert in our Dr. Energy Saver® insulation services. He visited the home to take thorough measurements of the attic space, targeting heat loss with a thermal imaging camera. Nick Woods II and his insulation team installed a combination of spray foam to air seal and insulate the roof deck as well as 18 inches of Tru-Soft cellulose.

The home owners will soon see a reduction in energy bills and increase in whole-home comfort!

Duluth, MN Homeowners Prevent Ice Dams and Increases Comfort with Attic Insulation

A Duluth, MN couple contacted DBS for help in preventing ice dams from forming on their home. Knowing that this is a symptom of energy loss in the home, they figured a permanent solution would make their home more comfortable as well.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer is an expert in our Dr. Energy Saver® solutions. After completing a thorough inspection of the attic, he provided the family with a free, no-obligation estimate for the work. He noticed frost and signs of water leaking in the attic, in areas consistent with the ice dams and cold rooms.

DBS Foreman Nick Woods II and his insulation crew completed the attic project. They first removed the existing fiberglass batting insulation, and applied a layer of spray foam to the attic floor for air seal and to prevent energy loss. From there, they applied 18 inches of cellulose insulation. DBS uses Tru-Soft cellulose, a light, yet dense material that has an R-value as high as 4 per inch.

The homeowners now have a solid solution to keep their home comfortable and reduce their energy bills!

He worked with the cabin owners to design a plan that would increase their year-round comfort and maintain their property value for years to come.

DBS Foreman Nick Burley led this crawl space project. He and his team installed 4 SmartJack® support beams in order to restore the cabin to a level position. From there, they installed our 3-layer system for crawl space encapsulation. First, drainage matting to eliminate moisture buildup, TerraBlock™ crawl space insulation, and CleanSpace® vapor barrier. These three products work together to fully protect the crawl space and condition spaces around them from the effects of cold air and moisture.
