This homeowner in Pomfret Center, CT called us when an energy evaluation on her home showed insufficient insulation in the attic. When we arrived, we noticed that her attic had batts of fiberglass insulation. The insulation was littered with bugs, dirt, and rodent feces -- not an ideal situation for a home, especially one where children or the elderly live. We spoke to the homeowner and she came to the conclusion that our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation was the best choice for her home. But before we could install that, we first had to see what was under all of that insulation.
The batts of insulation were bagged up into large trash bags. The stray pieces were then vacuumed out, alongside any remaining animal droppings and bugs. The insulation was then disposed of by Fogarty's Home Services.
Now, the attic is ready to be prepped, sealed, and insulated again! This removal is the first step to the lowered energy bills and comfortable home the customer was looking for.
Removal of moldy and damaged insulation from crawl space ceiling. Making basement warmer with foamax™ Insulation Board.
This homeowner in Southbridge, MA called us hoping that he could get the insulation in his attic replaced. Unfortunately, it had mold, and needed to be replaced as soon as possible. We first removed the attic insulation, leaving the attic bare (as seen in this photo). After remediating the mold (another solution!), we were able to get started on re-insulating this attic.
We first went in with our ZypFoam™ one-part spray foam. This was used to seal all cracks and gaps in the attic floor - any place where the air from the home would leak into the attic and get lost. After air sealing, we then took to insulating the main part of the attic with our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ is blown-in insulation -- meaning that it is literally blown into the attic using a large hose. We installed this insulation to the optimum R-value of R-60. Since it is blown in insulation, it avoids thermal bridging by covering framing members and fills all cracks, gaps, and odd shaped voids. Now, this homeowner's house is more comfortable than ever!
These homeowners in Woodstock, CT had issues with their home being cold. One of the main issues was cold air coming up through their open crawlspace. There was batt insulation in the crawlspace ceiling, but as often happens with batts, it was beginning to sag, leaving space for cold air to get up into the floors and up through the home. This issue would only get worse over time if left unchecked and the cycle will only continue if batt insulation is reinstalled.
We began by pulling out the batted insulation. We then installed our SilverGlo insulation foam across the bottom of the floor joists, or some may call the crawlspace ceiling. The foam is rigid and will not sag or pull away from the joists, there is also a radiant barrier facing on the SilverGlo which will stop conductive heat loss by keeping the warm air inside the home in. The SilverGlo is fastened into place with special long screws and any spaces between them are sealed with expanding foam.
Thanks Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy, this home is far more comfortable.
Our Woodstock, CT customer reached out to Fogarty's Home Services because his home was cold and his pipes kept freezing. One issue we found during our customer's free Home Energy Evaluation, was that the exterior walls weren't insulated properly. Nearly all walls leak air, causing drafts. The cold wall surface cools interior air which then sinks and travels across the floor and up the warmer interior wall, and across the ceiling back to the exterior wall. This is called a "convective loop" and makes rooms feel even draftier. To remedy this issue, Fogarty's Home Services dense-packed TruSoft™ cellulose into the exterior walls to stop air flow through the wall and insulate them. TruSoft™ Cellulose is treated to be highly fire, most and pest resistant. When finished, we plugged the insulation holes and put the siding back. Now, our customer has a less drafty, warmer, quieter, more comfortable house with lower fuel/electric bills. At Fogarty's Home Services, We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!
