PROBLEM
A house in Papineauville had a damp crawl space. There were water infiltrations coming from the walls, which caused mold growth. During our free inspection, our specialist Houssem took care of the visit. Descending into the crawl space, he was able to identify mold, causing an unpleasant odor. Serious structural damage that could even affect the foundation of the house could occur in case no action was taken.
SOLUTION
Encapsulation of the crawl space using the CleanSpace system. This involves covering the crawl space floor with a drainage membrane and a vapor barrier on top:
The drainage membrane has a cellular surface that helps transport infiltrated water towards the drainage or sump pump.
- The vapor barrier prevents the evaporation of infiltrated water, thereby eliminating excessive humidity. It also includes an antimicrobial additive that prevents mold growth.
- To ensure good thermal insulation of the crawl space walls, we installed SilverGlo wall insulation panels. In addition to resisting thermal conduction, SilverGlo panels have a radiant barrier that reflects heat inside the crawl space for energy savings.
Encapsulating a damp crawl space with our CleanSpace system is an effective solution to moisture problems that can lead to mold growth, unpleasant odors, and structural damage. The CleanSpace system involves installing a durable, vapor-resistant liner that completely seals the crawl space from outside elements, preventing moisture from entering. This system not only protects the home’s foundation but also enhances energy efficiency by insulating the area, creating a cleaner, drier, and healthier environment. With CleanSpace, homeowners can enjoy long-term peace of mind knowing their crawl space is fully protected against dampness and its damaging effects.
In Montebello Quebec, one of our customers' crawl space was suffering from high humidity, unpleasant odors and signs of mold. To remedy the situation, we installed our CleanSpace membrane : a thick, resistant coating that completely insulates the floor and walls, preventing ground-level moisture from rising to the surface. This solution creates a watertight barrier, transforming the space into a clean, dry and healthy environment. Since installation, customers benefit from a protected crawl space, and the air in their home is more pleasant.
This client contacted us initially to fix his humidity problem in his crawlspace, but while we were there, we noticed that there was a very large crack in the foundation wall of the crawl space.
We fixed this issue by installing the PowerBrace system. It consists of zinc coated beams and components. PowerBraces utilize a joist reinforcement that distributes the load evenly. The crawl space is now stable and sealed.
Before our intervention, the owner was dealing with water infiltration from the garage drain, causing high humidity, condensation, unpleasant odors, and poor insulation in the crawl space. These problems caused discomfort, increased energy bills, and the risk of structural damage. To remedy this, the Systèmes Sous-sol Québec team installed CleanSpace™ drainage membrane and vapor barrier, along with SilverGlo™ wall insulation. The drainage matting facilitates water flow to the perimeter drainage or sump pump thanks to its honeycomb surface, while improving the durability of the encapsulation system. The CleanSpace™ vapor barrier, composed of seven layers and an UltraFresh antimicrobial additive, blocks moisture and prevents mold growth, wood rot, and groundwater infiltration. Combined with SilverGlo™ insulation, these solutions have transformed the crawl space into a dry, well-insulated, and durable space, ensuring a healthier, more energy-efficient, and moisture-protected home, illustrating Systèmes Sous-sol Québec's expertise in crawl space encapsulation and repair throughout the province.
