Insulating a Basement in Holyoke, MA

This homeowner in Holyoke, MA approached us while we were at her neighbor's home. She had recognized our company from television commercials, and knew we would be able to help her. She was looking for help with her finished basement, which she described as very dark and musty. Once our Home Comfort Specialist was finished meeting with her neighbor, he went to this customer's home to evaluate it. The homeowner elaborated on the issues she had been experiencing. She stated that she had owned the home for over 50 years, and had been looking to get her basement fixed for most of that time. She said she had been meaning to call us for a long time. She wanted to take her basement from dark, musty, and humid to bright, clean, and dry. She also wanted to make it more comfortable.

We were able to help this customer. We began with tearing out the finished basement. We found that the walls were insulated with inefficient fiberglass batts that were damaged by the humidity. Once everything was removed from the basement, we began to utilize our solutions to prevent this issue from reoccurring. Our goal was to help the homeowner feel more comfortable in her home. For insulation, we utilized our Foamax polyisocyanurate board alongside two-part spray foam to insulate the basement. The Foamax polyiso board was able to fasten directly over the existing walls. Now, this homeowner is happy to have her home cleaner, brighter, and much more comfortable!

Insulating Under a Mobile Home in West Springfield, MA

This homeowner in West Springfield, MA reached out to us hoping to talk about her home. She was living in a mobile home, and was having some comfort issues, as it was the late fall. During her initial evaluation, she stated that her insulation under her home was damaged due to a leak. She wanted it replaced due to the comfort issues she was experiencing.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, SilverGlo™ foam insulation board is installed across the bottom of the floor joists with special long screws and 3” washers, SilverGlo™ is expanded polystyrene foam with graphite infused into the foam, which bumps up the insulation (“R”) value by 24% over standard EPS foam. Further, SilverGlo™ has a radiant barrier to reflect heat, so the insulation isn’t doing all the work by itself. All seams are sealed. If necessary a skirt board can be installed around the perimeter of the insulation so the edge is not visible. The skirt board may require painting after we are complete. Result - Much warmer floors, less drafts and more comfortable rooms, quieter home, lower fuel and electric bills.

Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Hadley, MA

This homeowner in Hadley, MA reached out to us because she was having issues in her home. She got water in her basement during heavy rains, even though she had a sump pump. When our Basement Systems Specialist came out to the home, he talked to her about her home comfort issues. She mentioned that she had humidity problems, including in her crawl space that was off the basement. She also had mold in her home.

We were able to help this customer! One of the solutions we utilized was our CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation system. We first insulated the walls using our SilverGlo™ foam insulation. For the floor, we added a dimpled drainage mat to create a thermal break. We then installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation on top of that. Then, we installed a CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner over that insulation. We fastened it into both the walls and floor to create a permanent solution for this crawl space. We then added two-part expanding spray foam to the rim joist to ensure that the crawl space was covered. Combined with our other solutions, this homeowner will experience less drafts, warmer floors, lower energy bills, and a much more comfortable home!

Replacing Window Wells in Hadley, MA

This homeowner in Hadley, MA reached out to us stating that she had water in her basement and crawl space. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he was discussing her general home comfort issues. The homeowner mentioned that her window wells were old and she believed that some of the water was coming in through them.

We were able to help this customer! We began by removing the old, concrete window wells. We then replaced them with our SunHouse™ window enclosures. They feature a white bottom that reflects natural light into the basement. They also have a clear cover that is both sturdy and fitted. This prevents rain and leaves from getting in to the window wells. Leaves had collected for years in the old wells, so this was a welcome change. Our SunHouse™ window enclosures are a beautiful addition to any home. Now, this homeowner is excited to have brand new window enclosures!

Replacing a Sump Pump in Chicopee, MA

This homeowner in Chicopee, MA reached out to us looking for help with her sump pump. She said that it was working, however, she did not think it was installed right. It also did not keep up when she had a flood in her basement a few months prior.

In order to help this customer, we needed to remove her old sump pump. We then installed our TripleSafe™ sump pump in the same spot. This sump pump features three pumps! The first pump is a 1/3 hp, cast iron Zoeller pump that can pump up to 2200 gallons per hour, 8 feet high. Should the first pump fail or not be able to keep up with the temporary heavy flow of water, a 1/2 hp AC back-up pump on a separate discharge line can pump 3900 gallons of water per hour. If the power fails, then a third, battery operated "UltraSump" pump automatically pumps up to 12,000 gallons of water out of the basement. Now, the homeowner will have peace of mind, knowing that she has three pumps keeping her basement dry!
