The owner of this Housatonic home contacted Fogarty's Home Services as he was concerned about his pipes freezing. One of the issues we found when doing the home evaluation is that the home had old, moldy insulation in the crawl space ceiling. The old thinking in crawl space construction was to vent the crawl space and create the thermal boundary (insulation layer) at the crawl space ceiling. It doesn't work. Insulation in this crawl space was pulled by gravity away from the sub floor. The same cold air under the insulation was flowing into the space on top of it - rendering the insulation useless. As the insulation got heavier with moisture content, it fell away from the sub floor even more and was falling to the floor. Fiberglass batt insulation has paper facing and organic material in the resin used to set the fibers into a batt - both are mold food. Fogarty's Home Services happily took on the difficult job of removing the existing fiberglass batts from the crawl space. The insulation was very bulky and took up a tremendous amount of space in trucks, and our dumpsters, but it was necessary to have a healthy home in the end. Now, Fogarty's Home Services is prepared to properly install insulation so the homeowner won't have to worry about his pipes freezing.
This homeowner called us with a rather annoying and all too familiar concern. Critters were taking over her home and she was tired of the uninvited guests. Dr. Energy Saver to the rescue!
Our Building Science Specialist went to the home and realized that luckily, it was a rather easy fix! We started out by vacuuming out all of the old Fiberglass Insulation. We then installed Closed-Cell Spray Foam Insulation along the Rim Joists in the basement to seal and to insulate. Goodbye pesky critters and hello to added energy efficiency!
This homeowner in Richmond, MA called us out to their home to see what we could do to make their home warmer during the cold seasons. This home has old, inefficient fiberglass insulation in the attic. This was not keeping the home warm in the winter, the air they paid to heat was easily escaping.
We removed all of the old, nasty fiberglass insulation. Then, we go in and air seal penetrations, and all top plates. Next, we build our catwalk for storage. We use our SilverGlo foam insulation board with a wooded walkway made of plywood on top. Now we are ready to blow our insulation. We blow our TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the attic, making sure not to get any on our catwalk.
Now, Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver, this home will be warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and more energy efficient all year round!
This homeowner in Richmond, MA was having issues with moisture in their home. Our free energy evaluation revealed that one of the culprits was the old, inefficient door leading to the basement from the outside. These kinds of doors let in cold air during the winter, and humid air in the summer, which condenses upon reaching the cooler air of the basement and crawlspace and can cause mold.
The old door was removed and to better accommodate the new door, we installed new framing. Once that framing was up, we put in the new door equipped with weather stripping and a secure lock.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this door is keeping the cold and moisture from outside away from this basement and keeping this home safe and comfortable.
This homeowner in Richmond, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her crawl space. The insulation in her crawl space was starting to fall down. Luckily, she had previously worked with us on prior projects and knew that we would be able to help her.
We were able to help this homeowner by utilizing our CleanSpace™ encapsulation system. We insulated the crawl space walls using SilverGlo™ foam insulation. For the floor, we added a dimpled drainage mat to create a thermal break. We then installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation on top of that. Then, we installed a CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner over that insulation. We fastened it into both the walls and floor to create a permanent solution for this crawl space. Now, this homeowner will experience less drafts and a much more comfortable home!
